GENERAL RULES
The deadline is the Friday, June 17 at 5 p.m. After that you may
enter the following Monday, June 20 and Tuesday, June 21 for an
additional $50.00, on Wednesday, June 22 and Thursday, June
23 for an additional $75.00 and Friday, June 24 for an additional
$100.00. After Friday, June 24 at 4 p.m., no entries will be accepted
for any reason. Changes and additions are not accepted after the
deadline. All articles must have been made within the past two years
and must be the work of the exhibitor.
Entry tags along with passes, will be available for pick-up in the Fair Office
on Wednesday , August 3, Thursday, August 4 and Friday, August 5 before
the fair from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, August 6 and Sunday,
August 7, entry tags can be picked up in the Exhibit Building.
Once picked up, the tags will not be reprinted.
1. The judge shall determine if an exhibit will receive a premium if there is
no competition.
2. Stained or soiled articles shall not be accepted.
3. Exhibitors in each department shall adhere to all rules and regulations.
4. All departments are open to non-professionals except where specified.
5. All exhibits must be in place by the time designated in each department.
6. Exhibit building hours for the week are 10:00 am. - 10:00 pm. Sunday
through Saturday.
When an exhibitor is presenting their exhibit to a judge for evaluation, the
wearingof any clothingwithobscenities, tobacco, alcohol or drug information
will not be allowed.
All exhibits (including livestock) must be in place by the time designated
in its DEPARTMENT. Animals must be officially entered in the Fair to be
housed in the barns/on the grounds (exception: nursing babies and animals
approved for exhibition by the Fair Board). In the exhibit building only one
entry per exhibitor per class shall be accepted.
The management does not pay transportation charges on articles sent for
exhibit.
The Fair is not responsible for any changes in State requirements after the
Exhibitor's Guide has gone to press.
After September 15 each year the fair reserves the right to dispose of
exhibits left unclaimed at the fair grounds.
Ribbons or entry tags have no value as to payment of premiums. Premiums
are paid from the records of the judge's book.
LIABILITY
The Shiawassee County Agricultural Society (SCAS) assumes no liability
for loss or damage to any property (including animals and/or individuals)
of the exhibitor, due to fire, tornado, weather conditions or other causes
beyond the control of the SCAS. The Exhibitor herein agrees to cover by
insurance all goods and property brought to or upon the grounds of the
SCAS. The exhibitor further agrees to hold and save said SCAS harmless
from suit or civil action in case of damage or loss of any kind or character
to said property, or from suit or civil action to recover damage or loss to
other persons or property brought to or upon the grounds of the SCAS, said
loss or damage occurring as a result of, or in connection with the operation
and conduct of the privilege.
RAFFLE AND FUNDRAISING POLICY
The sale of raffle tickets, auctions or similar events on the Fairgrounds
during fair week must be approved by the Fair Board. Requests must be
receive by the Fair Office at least one (1) month prior to the event to allow the
Board to review the request. Raffles and/or sales may be held only by clubs,
exhibitors or vendors who have paid for either commercial or exhibit space.
A raffle, sale, auction, etc., must:
1. Submit a sample of advertising copy for the event for approal by the
Fair Board.
2. Confine solicitation to the area designated by the Fair Board; under no
circumstances shall solicitingbe "at random" throughout theFairgrounds.
3. Be limited to one per barn/area at any given time. If two or more groups
would like to hold an event in the same specified barn/area, they may
agree to split the event/sale time, each using the specified area for an
agreed upon period of time.
If a complaint is received related to the raffle, sale or auction, a Fair Board
representative will give a verbal warning to the group. If a second complaint
is received, the group will be asked to discontinue the event.
The Board of Directors welcomes all qualified exhibitors to participate in the
annual Shiawassee County Fair. The following rules and regulations will be
enforced in order to provide a uniform, educational and positive experience
for all exhibitors.
Anyone using deception, including presenting a false address, in entering
an animal or still exhibit shall be penalized the amount of their premiums
and shall be disbarred from exhibiting for the period of two (2) years, not
to include the year the deception took place. If deception is alleged, the
exhibitor implicated and his or her parent/guardian will be notified and given
an opportunity to clarify the action in question, prior to the issuance of a
decision. The chain of command in "Complaint and Appeal Procedures"
shall be followed.
OPEN CLASS EXHIBITOR RESIDENCE RULES

or (real estate) property owners only. EXCEPTION: Youth exhibitors
(Cloverbuds, 4-H, FFA and/or Independents)
who qualify to exhibit
in youth classes may show in Open classes.
A)
Residents must have a valid proof of Shiawassee County
Residency and may be asked to appear before the Residency
Committee with proof of said residency as specified by the
Committee at that time.
B) A non-resident of Shiawassee County who is eligible to show in the
Open and/or Youth Divisions of the Shiawassee County Fair due to
the ownership of property within Shiawassee County may be asked to
appear before the Residency Committee with proof of legal ownership
(as specified by the Committee at that time) to verify eligibility.
YOUTH CLASS EXHIBITOR RESIDENCE RULES
Youth Class Departments
are open to
all youth residents
of
ShiawasseeCountywho are 4-HClubmembers, FFAChaptermembers
or who choose to show as an Independent, and other youth exhibitors
as specified in the guidelines:
A) Non-resident youth who own property (real estate) in Shiawassee
County, or who are the children of parents/legal guardians who own
(real estate) property (not to include leased land) in Shiawassee
County. Non-resident property owners are required to provide
proof of ownership in the form of a recorded deed in their name
or a property tax receipt for payment on property recorded in their
name.
B) Non-resident youth enrolled for a minimum of one semester
(immediately preceding the Fair) in Byron, Chesaning, Corunna,
Durand, Laingsburg, Morrice, Owosso, Ovid-Elsie, New Lothrop or
PerrySchools,orprivateorparochialschoolswithintheabovedistrict's
boundaries, known as the "Green Zone". Home schooled students
must reside within the (Green Zone) school districts' boundaries.
C) Any youth, not a resident of Shiawassee County, who was living
outside approved school districts, who showed at 2003 Shiawassee
County Fair, and who has shown continuously since 2003. Also, any
other youth members of their immediate family (brothers, sisters,
stepbrothers, stepsisters, half brothers, half sisters, adopted brothers
and adopted sisters) who must show continuously after their initial
year of showing.
D) Any youth exhibitor who has been properly qualified and shown a
minimum of 2 years continuously at the Shiawassee County Fair,
may continue to show at the Shiawassee County Fair if they move
out of the area leaving a qualified school district, listed in rule B,
or age out of 4-H, before they reach the age of 21, at which time
they must meet the requirements for adult or Open Class Exhibitor.
Exhibitors who have moved but will be entering exhibits in the Fair
under this rule will be required to provide verification of having
exhibited at the Shiawassee County Fair the prior 2 years.
E) Youth exhibitors living with guardians other than parents or
stepparents must be prepared to show documentation of the legal
guardianship of the adult in the home in which they reside.
F) Exhibitorsmust legally reside in theabovedefinedareaat aminimum
from the time their entries are submitted through fair week.
AGE REQUIREMENTS - All ages as of January 1
1. Youth exhibitors must be nine (9) years old on or before January 1
of the current year and 21 or younger on or before January 1 of the
fair/exposition year.
2.
Youth entering educational and demonstration projects must
be 19 years old or younger on January 1 of the fair/exposition
year.
Exhibitors who have been determined to be eligible for special
education services by the local school district must be 26 years old
or under on January 1 of the fair year.
3. Open livestock exhibitors may not be younger than 6 years of age
on January 1 of the fair year.
4. Cloverbuds are defined by age as 5-8 years old as of January 1st
of the project year.
5. Your age as of January 1st should be used all year.
